Yes, I am alive
Hello! *waves sheepishly* I know I disappeared and have been completely ignoring comments/nudges wondering where I am. I apologize for that. It was terribly rude of me. For some reason I seem to have developed a very big mental block about coming to lj/dw at all - I haven't even been reading anything here. However, I do think about everyone I know here pretty frequently and compose posts in my head, but it's no good if I don't write them down or keep up with your posts.

I had decided to stay and then I didn't so I don't know what is going to happen now! I think the most important thing is not to promise anything. Any particular posts. Any amount of posts. Any content unless I have it done and just need to hit the post button. Promising something puts me in avoidance mode and if there is anything I am good at, it's avoiding things I don't want to deal with for whatever reason. Really, I'm a fucking expert at it.

Now that I'm fully into tumblr it is providing me with my graphics outlet. (I have been making A LOT of graphics - go here and scroll through. Many, many pretty pictures.) However, I could use an outlet for writing personal posts, talking about recipes, and for longer text posts. I've missed all of that for the past few months. So, let's see how it goes?

Glad you are alive! I frequently compose cooking posts in my head. But I actually spend too much time cooking and eating the food to actually post them!

I'm just glad you and your family are okay. :-)
Chlorischloris on September 20th, 2013 01:50 am (UTC)
I have cooked many things since I last posted but the one I want to talk about is the peach pie. So. Damn. Good. I need to post that one even if only for myself so that I can make it again. And again. :)

I made my first one last year and it was amazing. I got the recipe from America's Test Kitchen and who knew it would be so delicious?

Still perfecting my whole wheat pastry crust recipe. I love pie. :-D
Chlorischloris on September 21st, 2013 01:22 am (UTC)
My recipe is from Fine Cooking and involves macerating the peaches and then cooking down the juices. So good. Yum. (And I didn't bother peeling them - a waste of time in my opinion. Just as good with the peels.)

Right now I'm into cream cheese crust myself. I keep switching and trying new ones but I have to say that the cheese makes it very easy a dough to roll out.
daybreak777: apple piedaybreak777 on September 21st, 2013 02:07 am (UTC)
Does a cream cheese crust taste like . . . cream cheese? I don't like cheesecake. The only thing I like cream cheese for in baking is carrot cake frosting.

Intriguing, though! There's more than one way to make a crust!
Chlorischloris on September 21st, 2013 04:02 am (UTC)
Nope! It's a little tangy but doesn't have a cheese flavor. And it is less fussy to roll out so I've been using it for the last few pies I've made.

Oh, there are SO MANY ways to make a crust. And I've tried most of them over the years. I keep switching my favorites. Someday I will find the perfect one.
daybreak777: breaddaybreak777 on September 21st, 2013 06:12 pm (UTC)
I know! I keep changing too! And when I have the perfect whole wheat pastry one or almost perfect I can't remember what I did!

I made a food picspam here if you're interested. I've missed talking about food!

those that do not do tumblr miss you.

honestly, i hate tumblr.

it makes no sense to me.

i hate that you can't have a conversation like you can here on LJ.

all tumblr seems to me to be is people passing stuff on that other people made.

and maybe not being able to have conversations is the point of it, but I don't like it. I troll through some tumblr sites because they have pictures of people that i used to get here on LJ, but I limit it to about 10 minutes each night because mostly the sites i do look at duplicate what i already saw somewhere else because all anybody does is repost others' stuff... and so the cycle begins again - a bit like an ouroboros.

Antjedieastra on September 19th, 2013 09:40 pm (UTC)
Everything you said. I only go to Tumblr when someone links to a specific thing and tells me to check it out.

Maybe my figure pictures would be a hit on Tumblr, but if everyone is just reposting I am a bit afraid of nobody knowing the original source anymore? And does the person originally posting it, even know how much they are loved by everyone? It feels a bit like sharing stuff without giving credit.

I'm really missing you, Chloris, you always had such nice posts and also nice thoughts on mine.
Chlorischloris on September 20th, 2013 02:08 am (UTC)
*hugs* I've missed you too!

You don't have to get on tumblr but you also don't have to worry that people won't know it was you who posted. It is all about reblogging - which has the history of the post attached (the names of everyone who reblogged or liked the post) and has the original poster linked. The source is always right there on the post making it easy to see where it came from. Reposting (which would be making a new, original post) someone else's work is quite frowned on.

So there is definitely credit to the originator. Also, I get notifications every time someone likes or reblogs anything I've posted so I know exactly how much my posts are enjoyed and by whom.
Antjedieastra on September 20th, 2013 08:27 pm (UTC)
Thank you for explaining! It really wasn't clear to me.
Well, maybe it might work this way on Tumblr itself, but in our Facebook-group I often have seen people taking images and not giving credit. Maybe they didn't care, maybe they were confused whom to actually give credit.

And now comes the shamelessly plugging, some posts of me recently where I thought you might have been interested. Hope you like the pictures!

Chlorischloris on September 21st, 2013 03:06 am (UTC)
Well, no matter where you post there are going to be people who will repost your work to other sites if they want to. I've had people repost my art from lj to tumblr, to forums, and to many other sites as well. At least within tumblr there is a culture which keeps credit with the originator.

Thanks for the links! I'll have to peruse them. :)
Chlorischloris on September 20th, 2013 01:57 am (UTC)
I can't say it makes a lot of sense to me either! But it engages my graphics brain and distracts me with shiny.

Yeah it is a lot of reblogging and repeating but it works once you are in the middle of it. My blog is about 10-20% new material - my own posts - and I follow a few people who post mostly their own fic, text posts, and art, but most people reblog most of the time. You could scan through tags since they are ALL new posts but some of them (like David Tennant's) move very fast. I have some pretty hefty filters that help.

*HUGS* Missed you!!! Things have been kind of busy around here too.

I've added you to my tumblr page.
Chlorischloris on September 20th, 2013 02:01 am (UTC)
I missed you too. I really have thought about lj pretty frequently this summer. It just didn't translate into actually visiting. I'm going to try to do better though.

And thank you! I hope to talk to you there as well.

*glomps you and hugs tightly* I've really missed you. Glad everything's going well. Wonders if you saw my message on Tumblr. Not a very friendly comm for interacting with people, which is sad.

Again, not sure if you saw my message on Tumblr, but I'm now a HUGE Doctor Who fan and hope we can talk about it together! Not to mention once Once returns!

Is there a chance you're on FB? If you are and want to add each other PM me.
Chlorischloris on September 20th, 2013 02:20 am (UTC)
I'm sorry! *hugs you back* I just had this huge block on even clicking on my journal here. I would consider it and then go do something else every time. And one of the fun things about tumblr is that it eats asks. So, yes, not a particularly good place for communication. It is great for graphics though and that's where my head has been lately.

Huge Doctor Who fan, hey? Which Doctor is your Doctor? Are you a new Who fan or one of the whole show? I probably should scan through some of your posts. *g*

No. No facebook for me. I've resisted thus far! Which is probably good. See what happened when I tried to stay active on two social media sites? I'm not sure how I could handle three.
~Lirpa~: Doctor Who: Rose and Tenkatje0711 on September 20th, 2013 02:31 am (UTC)
Eats asks? WTF? That's stupid. What about the text option? What's that about? I really would like a way to stay in touch, in case you do ever decide to leave LJ. Email?

Oh, yes, HUGE fan!! I remember Tom Baker from when I was a kid, but I don't know if I ever saw a complete episode of the old Who. So, 9 is my Doctor, but I love 9, 10 and 11. And I do want to get into the old Who, as well. But, yes, please do check out my LJ!
Chlorischloris on September 21st, 2013 04:11 am (UTC)
Heh. Tumblr is a site where you have to use extra software for it to work at all. And even then it's not great. But it's active and lots of fandom is there and so I'm there.

As for staying in touch, I'm happy to give you my email. I'll message you.

Ah, a 9 fan. A smaller group than the 10 or 11 fans but a proud group. He only had one season but it was a GOOD one. Davies knew exactly how to get the franchise started again.

I don't know if you tried sending me your email, but I never received a message. Mine is KatyaSullivan22 at gmail.com

I agree, 9 did have a good run!

Very glad that you're ok! : ) Missed you and your lovely posts.

I don't go on Tumblr very often, and don't have an account there, although I do pop in once in awhile when friends point me in the direction of something fun they've posted. *hugs*

And I missed seeing what you are up to as well!

It is quite the time suck so you are better off not getting into it. It's too late for me. Save yourself. :D
Opalshinyopals on September 20th, 2013 05:53 pm (UTC)

I sorta sympathise with the mental block wrt this site - I can't believe I used to have so much to post and comment on every day. These days coming up with a single post can be a chore.
Chlorischloris on September 21st, 2013 03:49 am (UTC)
Yeah. And it seems there is a different frame of mind I need to be in when I'm here. It's easier not to switch back and forth but I do miss having conversations. As well as the people I know here!

take the pressure off m'colleague :) just post what you like when you like - nothing has to be perfect - it's your bally journal!
Chlorischloris on September 21st, 2013 03:52 am (UTC)
Yeah, I know. I put pressure on myself and then get upset if I don't live up to it. So I'm taking the pressure off and I post what I post. Nice to see you again! *hugs*

I was just checking my flist to see who'e still active and saw this! I could have written it myself!

I've come to the conclusion that Tumblr is the ego-feed: you post something and suddenly a certain post will rack up a lot of notes and a new follower or two and suddenly there are a thousand people. In terms of most fandoms LJ is really dying in that respect. Also posting on LJ is now a royal pain so...I need to seriously set up my DW account!

I do like the instant news on Tumblr--within seconds of a new trailer or picture being posted it's everywhere. But it is hard to have conversations--I don't allow anons and you don't get to now people as well, so I do miss LJ for that although I stay active in a few comms.

I HAVE MISSED YOU and I hope all is well. Update us on Chicklet some time. I need to go track you here so I get updates when you post.
Chloris: Blackpool ehrmchloris on October 10th, 2013 12:33 pm (UTC)
Yeah it's weird. Until you are IN tumblr it's hard to understand why anyone is in tumblr. But then you look up again and it's a few months later. :)

Completely an ego-feed. LJ used to do that to some extent - things didn't travel as much since there was no reblogging but posts would get links and comms were active so a lot people would scroll by your post. But it's even easier on tumblr for something to get popular. Don't have a thousand followers yet but I'm up near 400 and seems rather amazing to me so quickly.

One thing that is nice is since I do have my DW account I'm rather insulated from LJ changes so long as it still cross-posts. It does make it easier to come back but I know that I'm not going to be posting graphics here anymore. The process rather drives me nuts now.

The instant news is what drew me in the first place. I was always going over there to check for new info and then I got an account just to track tags and then someone was posting my picspams without credit and that annoyed me and so I started posting myself and here we are.

I've missed you too! I see you posting things on tumblr so I know you're still around but it's not the same.
