Update
Right. So I just had to decide if I was keeping this place (or at least keeping this place as a paid member) and I decided to continue. Even though I haven't been around almost at all for the last couple of months I'd like to get back into the habit of posting and reading and chatting here. I miss all of you! *hugs* Though I have noticed that I managed to suck a few of you into the swirling vortex of doom which is tumblr. :) Even so it's still a better venue for sharing pretty pictures and cat videos than for talking.

- I'm making bread today for dinner and I do love the smell of yeast dough rising on my counter. Yum. It's just a basic sandwich dough since enriched doughs like that (with butter and milk) rise quickly and can be made in few hours. The perfect dough for times when I didn't get it together to make up the dough the night before.

- The farmer's market has begun again for the year! Anyone who has been around here for a while knows how much I LOVE the farmer's market. We did have a winter market (which ended up full of DRAMA - I heard all about it from my favorite vendors) but there is nothing like the vegetables you get once they can plant outside. I got white turnips (excellent roasted or in salads) along with their greens, spinach, lettuce, strawberries (yay! first of the season!), rhubarb (I wanted some sorbet), asparagus, and broccolini. Spring peas are coming soon! And fava beans. They are a lot of work for a little bit of food but SO GOOD.

- We got our first heat wave of the year over the weekend. Ridiculously early but now I know the air conditioning works. (I don't use it too much but over 80 in the house and humid and it goes ON.) To make it especially weird only the week before we were shivering and there was snow in western Mass.

- The cats, dog, and turtle are all well. Midnight especially would like to snuggle you all. Snuggliest cat I've ever had and now that his breath is better (salmon kibble did not agree with him - chicken is the one for him) I'm happy to give him many snuggles. Apollo wasn't getting enough brushies so he managed to get fur mats along his sides, something I didn't even know could happen with a short-haired cat. But his fur IS thick! We have managed to mostly brush them out but he still has a few small ones. Ginny is having a jumping issue since Zeph started leaving for most of the day. She's fine when it's just the two of us but whenever Zephyrus is home she likes to get between us and jump on me. *sigh* We're still figuring out how to deal with this.

Where is your tumblr again? (I've been thinking maybe I ought to get one myself, just so I can follow other people...)

I am thechloris. Lots of shiny pictures, a little discussion, a few turtles, and mostly about Robert Carlyle. It's definitely a place for the visually orientated. And I always keep my gif-stopping keys handy. (Firefox changed things so you need an addon these days and I couldn't live without it.)

You were going to leave LJ? You, your recipes, picspams, and family/menagerie updates would be missed!

Ginny has so much affection. Young animals are so . . . young. I wish you luck with the jumping.

Enjoy the veggies!

Not completely leave but more use it very occasionally and let my paid membership lapse. But I have to admit that tumblr is WAY more distracting than I thought it would be.

Heh. Affection. I'm thinking jealousy - now that Zeph is gone so much she doesn't want to share. But it could also just be excitement. 'ALL MY PEOPLE ARE HERE AND THEY ARE TALKING! YAY'

Oh, I am. I can't wait for the spring peas. Yum.

Yay! Great to have you back! I missed you. Did you see all my Fedcon pictures and reports recently?

I have not! I'll need to sift back through your journal and check them out. *g* I did see your latest flood pictures and I'm happy you are up on high ground because that doesn't look good for anyone at ground level.

Thanks. I've started to go through them and I'll be throwing you some comments.

As for Arrow fanfic, I've never seen the show so it wouldn't mean much to me. (And I only even read fanfic if I'm madly in love with the canon anyway.)
Antje: Arrowdieastra on June 8th, 2013 02:43 pm (UTC)
Well, this begs the question of course WHY you never saw Arrow ;) You do know that JB plays the bad guy over there, and very well? I was really impressed, he certainly has grown as an actor. He was not just bad per se, but you could also understand and feel for him.

I started to watch only because of him, but fell in love with the whole show immediately. And it gave me back my writing muse which was missing for the past couple of years - we got some spoilerious promotion pictures two weeks before the finale, and I imagined how the scene would go. And the second story is set right after the finale, which blew us all away, and I explored what might happen next.

And no, they would not make much sense otherwise, and also would be very spoilerous, as there is much more to John's character than the nice looking guy in a suit. And that's all I'm saying. So is there any way I can talk you into watching? Here is the trailer, from this alone I was totally hooked and could not wait for it to start, and then each episode had so many twists and turns and cliffhangers, you always ended up wanting more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws9X6I5CvcE

(and I get the feeling we already had this entire conversation, then I am sorry, but it really is one of my main fandoms at the moment - totally unexpectedly)

No particular reason except that I can barely keep up on the shows I am watching. I have a pile of things on the dvr waiting for me and I really haven't been watching much tv at all these days! I'm glad you enjoyed it though. Before Arrow makes it anywhere near my horizon, I have three different David Tennant things to watch. (No, I haven't seen ANY of them. Someday I will.)

*HUGS* Missed you!

I love a snuggle cat! One of my nieces had one and she would run and jump and curl up in my lap and go to sleep.

I love homemade bread too! Sounds yummy!
Chloris: Once Upon Mr. Gold big smilechloris on June 6th, 2013 12:33 am (UTC)
He is a WONDERFUL snuggle cat until you are trying to sleep and it's 4 am. Then not so much. :) We've been sleeping with the door closed lately and that usually works until my Apollo decides he MUST come in and sleep on my feet.

Homemade bread is very tasty and so much cheaper than the bakery bread that I do try to make it whenever I can instead of buying.

:waves:

It's funny, this is the time of year when a lot of farmer's markets here shut down or reduce their hours. *g*
Chloris: btvs buffychloris on June 6th, 2013 12:35 am (UTC)
Heh. That is why people move back and forth. All the yummy veggies are revving up around here and it is GOOD. Though I am still envious of your figs. We can at least get packages of fresh figs in the market the past few years but I'd rather have a tree. :)

I sure hope you don't ever leave LJ!

Drama at a Farmer's Market? WTF?

The weather certainly has been strange.

Yay for snuggy kitties!

Do you think you'll ever write a review for the Once finale?
Chlorischloris on June 6th, 2013 12:47 am (UTC)
I was just feeling all guilty about ignoring all of you here!

Yeah. The people running the winter market decided to keep it going year round and then got all upset when farmers wanted to only stay part time and then move to the summer market once it opened. Threatening letters and everything. And then they hired a couple of 'farmers' to sell produce in their market but the farmers buy most of their food instead of growing it. Hmph.

And now it's cool again! Nice sleeping weather but the plants must be getting confused. :)

I will. But I don't know when. Sorry!

tumblr is fun, but it's harder to talk to people there!
Chlorischloris on June 8th, 2013 02:56 am (UTC)
It is. No one wants to chat with me there which is another reason to pull myself back from the swirling vortex and spend more time here again.

vervet_monkeyvervet_monkey on June 9th, 2013 04:41 pm (UTC)
Don't go! Your recipes and pets and Tennant are all very important!

I really miss farmers markets. Growing anything on Bonaire is impossible, so no one (with the exception of my boss, but they live on the only place on the island with a fresh spring, so they're the exception) has any to spare. Everything is imported, and mostly from the Netherlands, so it's never in the best shape when it arrives.

We had the jumping problem when we first got my dog (rottwieler, do not want her jumping when you're only 5ft tall!). We made her sit EVERY time she jumped up and then made a huge fuss of her when she did. It was tedious but it worked. Plus now we have a weird dog that sits down when she gets over excited...

We also currently have parrots here named after all the Weasleys (having students here as geeky as me means I can get away with it!), so let Ginny know she has a parrot buddy in the Caribbean.
